Stay tuned for more information on how our team is preparing to welcome you back home.

MAY 19, 2020

Here’s a question we know many in our church family are asking:

"...not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”  Hebrews 10:25

“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts...”  Acts 2:46

  • Christians are called to honor those in government.

The current restrictions are universal and not discriminatory specifically against churches.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities.
For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” Romans 13:1–2

“Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.”  Titus 3:1–2

  • Christians are called to have a good witness in our community.

We love Traverse City and desire to make a helpful, healthy, God-honoring impact on our community.

“We urge you, brothers ... to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.”             1Thessalonians 4:10–12

“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,” Philippians 2:14–15

“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. ... For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people”  1 Peter 2:12,15

Because we are guided by these biblical principles (Love and Care, Worship, Honor and Witness) we believe the next step will be to ask our small groups to begin meeting in person beginning in June.

Following the same principles of love and care, honor, and witness, our plan is flexible as information is changing almost weekly. We realize some may not be comfortable meeting, if you are not comfortable meeting in person please stay connected with your group. This is a great time to continue to grow in your faith. We recognize that there are many differing views on reopening plans and we are trusting God’s word to continually guide us in our decisions. And we ask for your prayer.

What should happen next?

-Please pray for godly wisdom for your church leaders.

-Pray for your witness. Be a bold example of Christ’s love and care.

-Stay connected through online services. Continue to grow in your faith.

-Connect in person with your group beginning in June.

You are LOVED!

Message from Pastor Doug:

Dear Harvest Family,

I am so glad to be part of such a fantastic church family! I love hearing how God is at work in your lives. Like you, I certainly didn’t have planned all the changes we continue to experience, yet I know that God is not surprised by this; in fact, God remains entirely in control. My hope is that this email update finds you resting in his sovereignty. Along with the schedule changes being experienced by almost every family, the new schedule has brought about some changes for our church family.

Here are three changes to be aware of:

  1. Mops Ministry will not be meeting for the remainder of the academic year.
  2. Vertical Men and Women including the Vertical Men Rally are cancelled for the remainder of the academic year. If you have already registered for VM Rally your money will be fully refunded.
  3. In light of the uncertainty of these times, the elders and I have decided to postpone my sabbatical indefinitely. We feel that this makes the most sense for the health of our church as we work to stay connected during this unprecedented time. In fact, I hope you’re staying connected with your Small Group and seeing growth in your relationship with God. SG’s format might look different these days, but it’s just as important now as it’s always been. I encourage you to make it a vital part of your week!

Additionally, if you have any needs that we can meet as a church, or if we can encourage you in any way please do not hesitate to let me know.

“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” --- 1 Corinthians 12:26

I look forward to worshiping together in person someday soon!

You are loved and missed!
Pastor Doug

SMALL GROUPS during Coronavirus

We are trying to maintain consistency with all that our elected officials are asking us to do. As you are well aware, there are daily changes right now. The latest information includes a recommendation to avoid social gatherings of more than 10. Many of our groups are averaging right around this number, some slightly above and some below.   If you are concerned that you might exceed this number, you have the option to cancel your group, or you can plan to do 2 hours of mutual ministry. When people arrive, the men and the ladies split up for the full 2 hour time. After this week, we have a planned 2 week break from our small groups.

MARCH 8, 2020

Launching March 29th with Pastor Zacary Prophete. Pray for the unrest in the country. Pray for a great launch Sunday and that many people would come to know Christ.

Pastor Doug and Doug Bell visiting over March 29th to solidify commitment of the Core Team and train for next steps. The team is growing and we’re thankful for how God continues to work. Pray for God to continue to grow the team, grow the finances and to provide a larger place to meet for worship.

Pastor Doug will be taking a 12-week sabbatical beginning April 15. Please pray for a restful and refreshing time with God.

- The sabbatical is not a reward for past work but a time of renewal as we look to the next ten years!

- We recognize that pastoring a church may not be more difficult than other jobs but there is a soul-weight that is part of being a pastor.

Pray for rest, renewal, marriage, family and vision for the future.

- We’re thankful for his leadership in the church.

During his sabbatical, you will hear from some fantastic guest pastors

April 26 - Dave Wisen- Harvest Springlake/Grand Haven

May 3 - Brian Bement -Christ Church

May 17 - Charles Kirby - Summit Church

May 24 - Jaime Maxim - Harvest Lakeshore

May 31 - Eric Klingel - Harvest Fremont

June 7 - Ryan Hall - Anchor Church

June 28 - Bryan Wise - Grace Community Church

Adam Dennis is leaving his staff position overseeing the Small Group ministry. We’re so thankful for him and Michelle and how God has used them in the life of this church! Please pray for clear next steps for Adam as he seeks another job. We hope to see he and his family around Harvest often!

Please pray for our future Small Groups Pastor.

This church update was shared with the church family by the elders during a Family Chat at the end of the Sunday services on March 8th.
